Che Jeffrey Herlings avrebbe saltato la prova di apertura della stagione 2019 della MXGP era risaputo, ma in questo comunicato ufficiale pervenuto da KTM comincia a trapelare qualche informazioni in più sul suo infortunio.
La situazione non è sicuramente delle più rosee e solo tra altre due settimane si potra realmente capire se il campione del mondo in carica della classe MXGP tornerà presto in sella o se come si vocifera da tempo, dovremo aspettare Maggio.
Il Team Red Bull KTM rimarrà senza il numero 1 di Jeffrey Herlings per il viaggio di questa settimana in Patagonia. Il 24enne si sta ancora riprendendo da un complesso intervento chirurgico al piede destro a causa di un incidente di allenamento avventuo in Spagna a gennaio. Herlings è pronto per un check-up l’11 marzo per passare da un gesso completo a un supporto più leggero e per valutare il processo di guarigione.
L’olandese ha vinto l’evento inaugurale del 2018 del FIM Motocross World Championship in Argentina in modo spettacolare. La vittoria è stata la prima delle 17 vittorie su 19 presenze in quella che è stata una delle stagioni dominanti più importanti nell’era moderna dello sport.
Jeffrey Herlings :“Non posso percepire molto bene il mio piede a causa del gesso, ma sembra che stia procedendo bene dopo l’operazione e non vedo l’ora di rimuovere alcuni ferri fra un paio di settimane così da poter anche cambiare il gesso. È un peccato perdere l’Argentina. Penso che l’anno scorso sia stata una delle migliori gare della stagione. È anche una delle mie piste preferite: ampia, veloce e sabbiosa. È un peccato che non saremo lì ma è quello che è. ”
Joel Smets, KTM Motocross Sport Director :“L’infortunio di Jeffrey non è ‘semplice’ come una clavicola o un’altra parte del corpo. In realtà è abbastanza complicato ed è qualcosa che dovremo monitorare e guardare nella riabilitazione. Ovviamente il piede di un pilota subisce molte sollecitazioni nel motocross con i numerosi salti e dossi. Quindi staremo attenti e, si spera, avremo un’idea migliore nelle prossime settimane su come sta andando la sua ripresa. Naturalmente ci mancherà in Argentina, ma con il resto dell’equipaggio formato da Tony, Jorge e Tom il Team Red Bull KTM sarà ancora pronto per il tipo di risultati ai quali Jeffrey avrebbe puntato.”
Herlings waiting for injury news update in March
FIM MXGP World Champion Jeffrey Herlings is confirmed to miss this weekend’s Grand Prix of Patagonia Argentina at Neuquen and the first round of the 2019 series. The Red Bull KTM rider is due to have a check-up on his broken right foot on March 11th.
Red Bull KTM will be without reigning No.1 Jeffrey Herlings for this week’s trip to Patagonia. The 24 year old is still recovering from complex surgery on his right foot due to a training accident in Spain in January. Herlings is set for a check-up on March 11th to change from a full cast to a lighter support and to evaluate the healing process.
The Dutchman claimed the 2018 opening event of the FIM World Championship in Argentina in spectacular fashion. The win was the first of 17 victories from 19 appearances in what was one of the most dominant and impressive title campaigns in the modern era of the sport.
Jeffrey Herlings: “I cannot really feel too much with my foot because of the cast but it seems to be progressing well after the operation and I’m looking forward to having some of the pins removed in a couple of weeks when I can also change the cast. It’s a pity to miss Argentina. I think last year was one of the best races of the season. It’s also one of my favourite tracks: wide, fast and sandy. It’s a big shame that we won’t be there but it is what it is.”
Joel Smets, KTM Motocross Sport Director: “Jeffrey’s injury is not as ‘simple’ as a collarbone or another part of the body. It’s quite tricky actually and it is something that we will have to monitor and look at the rehabilitation. Obviously a rider’s foot comes under a lot of punishment in motocross with the many jumps and bumps. So we are being careful and will hopefully have a better idea in the coming weeks of how his recovery is going. Of course we will miss him in Argentina but the rest of the crew with Tony, Jorge and Tom means Red Bull KTM will still be ready to go for the kind of results Jeffrey would be shooting for.”
