MXGP of Turkey: good teamwork performance fo SM Action Riders

For the second time in the history of World Championship Motocross, the circus went back to Turkey for a GP (the first one was in 2009). The circuit that hosted this second time, was the Supercross-styled track of Afyon, a little town which is 450km far away from the capital Istanbul. SM Action Yamaha Team was completed with the comeback of Michele Cervellin and at the end of the day we have seen that if there are no problems, performances will naturally come. The trio CervellinFurlottiRenaux well behaved and the results were good.

In Saturday morning’s Free Practice Michele Cervellin was 6th fastest while Maxime Renaux and Simone Furlotti were 8th and 13th. In Timed Practice Cervellin was still the best of the threes in the Top Ten but he lost three positions comparing to Free Practice. Renaux lost a little bit as he was 12th while Furlotti maintained the 13th fastest lap time.

Qualifying Race started quite well, Cervellin was in the Top Ten but after one lap only he slipped and he moved to the back of the group. He restarted in 19th place, he tried a comeback but he stopped in 14th place. Meanwhile Renaux kept the 8th position but he couldn’t do anything for Rodriguez’s comeback, who passed and moved him back to the 10th place. Furlotti moved up from the 16th to the 13th place and he showed some constant pace.

In Race 1 Team SM Action Yamaha riders actually stayed together. From lap 6 until the end of the race, Cervellin, Renaux and Furlotti stayed respectively in 9th, 10th and 11th place. Only at the end of the race Furlotti and Renaux swapped positions.

Race 2 was about to be the copy of Race 1 with Cervellin in 10th place, Renaux in 11th and Furlotti in 12th. Cervellin kept the position until the checkered flag while Furlotti, who was probably a little bit tired, lost a couple of places. He moved one place up again at the end of the race, as his teammate Renaux was penalized for 10 positions as he didn’t respect a yellow flag during the race.

At the end of the day Michele Cervellin was 8th while Furlotti finished 12th wih only one point of gap from the Top Ten. Maxime finished 16th but, as we said before, he paid for the demotion of Race 2. With that placement, he could have entered the Top Ten.

In the General Classification Cervellin consolidated his 8th place and he moved up to only nine points of gap from the 7th. Furlotti is 20th while Renaux, who took part to a few races only (his target is the EMX250 European Championship), is 30th.
