Presentando una forte strategia per lo sviluppo di una nuova generazione di stelle del motocross, Yamaha Motor Europe NV è orgogliosa di confermare una squadra ufficiale in ciascuna categoria di supporto del campionato mondiale FIM MXGP; MX2, EMX250, EMX125 e WMX.

Guidando lo sforzo e impostando la Yamaha YZ250F in cima al campionato MX2, Monster Energy Kemea Yamaha MX2 ha mantenuto Ben Watson e Jago Geerts per un’altra stagione. Ispirato dal detto “qualità oltre la quantità”, la squadra è passata da una formazione di tre piloti a due e si concentrerà sul talento dimostrato durante il 2018. 

L’anno scorso, in quanto nuove reclute per il team, sia Watson che Geerts hanno superato tutte le aspettative su quello che inizialmente si pensava fosse un “anno di apprendimento”. Il 21enne Watson ha raggiunto una pietra miliare nella carriera MX2 salendo sul podio nel Grand Prix della Russia per la prima volta. Ha anche finito tra i primi cinque in 12 Gran Premi e successivamente si è classificato quarto nella classifica finale dopo una stagione di duelli per la medaglia di bronzo della MX2. 

Altrettanto impressionante, Geerts ha avuto una splendida stagione da principiante con tanto di podio nell’MXGP della Lettonia. Il 18enne belga è stato insignito del premio Jan de Groot di Youthstream come il debuttante dell’anno. Ha terminato l’ottavo posto nel Campionato mondiale MX2 2018 nonostante non abbia disputato tre turni a causa di un infortunio. 

All’interno del campionato europeo di motocross, la Yamaha EMX250 di SDM Corse – precedentemente denominata “ASTES4-TESAR Yamaha Official EMX250” – è destinata ad essere una forza da non sottovalutare. La squadra italiana, guidata dall’ex campione del mondo MX1 David Philippaerts, entrerà in campo con Gianluca Facchetti, Ruben Fernandez, Rick Elzinga e Caleb Grothues. Ogni piolota si allineerà su una YZ250F equipaggiata con Kit GYTR. 

Inoltre, il campione 2018 EMJ125 della MJC Yamaha Thibault Benistant ha scambiato la sua YZ125 a due tempi equipaggiata con GYTR per un quattro tempi YZ250F equipaggiato con GYTR. Benistant ha vinto il titolo EMX125 con il supporto di MJC Yamaha e resterà con la squadra entrando nella sua stagione da principiante nella classe EMX250. 

Nonostante Benistant sia nei ranghi EMX250, MJC Yamaha EMX125 continuerà a supportare tre giovani piloti che cercheranno di fare breccia sulla scena mondiale. La line-up di quest’anno sarà composta da Florian Miot, Luca Diserens e l’eventuale vincitore della 2018 YZ125  bLU cRU Cup Magnus Smith.

Completano la squadra Yamaha per il successo, la sei volte campione del mondo di motocross femminile FIM Kiara Fontanesi che rimarrà nella sua squadra, la MX Fonta Yamaha WMX, mentre aspira al suo settimo titolo mondiale. La campionessa in carica si unirà sotto la tenda del Fonta MX Yamaha e sul cancello della serie WMX dall’attuale numero tre del mondo WMX Larissa Papenmeier.

Erik Eggens – Yamaha Motor Europe MX Racing Manager: “Sono contento di avere Ben e Jago nella nostra squadra ufficiale MX2 gestita da Kemea. Entrambi hanno fatto un grande successo l’anno scorso, Jago è stato il miglior debuttante e Ben è arrivato quarto, questo è qualcosa che ci ha piacevolmente sorpresi, tanto più che due anni fa abbiamo guardato alla possibilità di un pilota che potesse ottenere un posto sul podio all’interno della classe MX2 e in quel momento i primi cinque piloti all’interno del campionato erano già sotto contratto, quindi dovevamo cercare di trovare giovani ragazzi che potessimo mettere sotto contratto per un accordo pluriennale che credevamo avrebbero9 avuto il potenziale per crescere e alla fine sfidare per il podio. Quando Jago e Ben sono saliti sul podio l’anno scorso, questo ci ha colto di sorpresa non perché non pensavamo di poterlo fare, ma è successo prima del previsto. La scorsa stagione entrambi i piloti erano veloci e in forma, e credo che nel periodo invernale abbiano ulteriormente migliorato la loro velocità e le loro condizioni e penso che siano in grado di sfidarsi per il podio e, si spera, anche per le vittorie. Ci siamo concentrati anche sulla qualità, la scorsa stagione Kemea aveva tre piloti e in questa stagione ne avrà due. Questo funzionerà a favore di entrambi i piloti e della squadra e potranno concentrarsi sul loro obiettivo di essere nella parte alta della classifica della MX2”.

Monster Energy Kemea Yamaha MX2 Retains Podium Threats Watson and Geerts

Presenting a strong strategy to develop a new generation of motocross stars Yamaha Motor Europe N.V. is proud to confirm an official team in each supporting category of the FIM MXGP World Championship; MX2, EMX250, EMX125 and WMX.

Spearheading the effort and set to take Yamaha’s YZ250F to the top of the MX2 Championship, Monster Energy Kemea Yamaha MX2 has retained Ben Watson and Jago Geerts for another season. Inspired by the ‘quality over quantity’ adage, the team has transitioned from a three-rider line-up to two where they will concentrate on the talent they were awakened to during 2018. 

Last year, as new recruits to the team both Watson and Geerts exceeded all expectations on what was initially expected to be a ‘learning year’. 21-year-old Watson achieved a career milestone at the MX2 Grand Prix of Russia when he stood on podium for the first time. He also finished inside the top five at 12 Grands Prix and subsequently finished fourth in the final classification after a season-long battle for the MX2 bronze medal. 

Equally as impressive, Geerts had a superb rookie season complete with a podium appearance of his own at the MXGP of Latvia. The 18 year-old Belgian was awarded Youthstream’s ‘Jan de Groot award’ as the rookie of the year. He finished eighth overall in the 2018 MX2 World Championship despite missing three rounds due to injury. 

Inside the European Motocross Championship, SDM Corse Yamaha EMX250 – formerly titled ‘ASTES4-TESAR Yamaha Official EMX250’ – is bound to be a force to be reckoned with. The Italy-based team mentored by former MX1 World Champion David Philippaerts will enter the fray with Gianluca Facchetti, Ruben Fernandez, Rick Elzinga and Caleb Grothues. Each rider will line up on a GYTR kitted YZ250F. 

In addition, MJC Yamaha’s 2018 EMX125 Champion Thibault Benistant has swapped his GYTR kitted YZ125 two-stroke machine for a GYTR kitted YZ250F four-stroke. Benistant won the EMX125 title with the support of MJC Yamaha and will remain with the team as he enters his rookie season in the EMX250 class. 

Despite having Benistant in the EMX250 ranks, MJC Yamaha EMX125 will still support three young riders looking to make waves on the world stage. This years line up will consist of Florian Miot, Luca Diserens and the eventual winner of the 2018 YZ125 bLU cRUCup Magnus Smith.

Completing Yamaha’s bid for success, six-time FIM Women’s Motocross World Champion Kiara Fontanesi will remain on her own team, MX Fonta Yamaha WMX, as she sets her sights on her seventh World Title. The defending champion will be joined under the MX Fonta awning and on the gate for the five round WMX series by the current WMX world ‘number three’ Larissa Papenmeier.

Erik Eggens – Yamaha Motor Europe MX Racing Manager: “I am happy to have Ben and Jago in our official MX2 team run by Kemea. Both guys did great last year, Jago was the best rookie and Ben finished fourth, this is something that pleasantly surprised us, especially as two years ago we sat down and looked at the possibilities to challenge for a place on the podium inside the MX2 class and at that moment the top five riders inside the championship were already contracted, so we needed to try to find young guys who we could sign to a multi-year deal that we believed would have potential to grow and eventually challenge for podium finishes. When Jago and Ben landed on the podium last year, this caught us by surprise not because we did not think they could, but it just happened sooner than expected. Last season both riders were both fast and fit, and I believe that in the winter period they have further improved their speed and condition and I think they are capable of challenging for podium finishes and hopefully race victories too. We also focused on quality, last season Kemea went out with three riders and this season they will line up with two. This will work in favour of both the riders and the team where they can focus on their goal of being at the sharp end of MX2.”
