L’ultima gara degli Internazionali d’Italia MX EICMA Series 2019 si è svolta oggi all’interno del circuito Tazio Nuvolari di Mantova.
La pista sabbiosa, che è una delle preferite di Cairoli, era stata dura ed insidiosa, con i buche secche in tutta la pista ed ha reso le gare più difficili e tecniche per gli oltre 200 piloti iscritti nelle tre categorie. In mattinata il nove volte campione del mondo ha ottenuto un ottima pole position con la sua KTM 450 SX-F ed è andato al via primo, ma il vantaggio non ha aiutato il siciliano che ha avuto un inizio difficile quando il cancello è caduto.
Fuori dai primi venti alla prima curva, il pilota del KTM Red Bull Factory Racing Team è riuscito a rimontare nel gruppo, facendo segnare giri veloci su giri veloci, tagliando il traguardo in terza posizione, aggiudicandosi il titolo della MX1 per il terzo anno di fila. Nella gara della Supercampione, TC222 ha siglato l’hole-shot ed è andato in fuga, spingendo dal primo all’ultimo dei quindici giri, tagliando il traguardo primo per la terza volta nella Supercampione del 2019 e vincendo il suo undicesimo titolo degli Internazionali d’Italia. Tra pochi giorni tutto sarà pronto per volare dall’altra parte del globo, per il primo round della MXGP 2019, che sarà ospitato sul tracciato patagonico di Villa La Angostura.
Antonio Cairoli: “Gli Internazionali d’Italia sono sempre un buon banco di prova perché ci sono molti campioni al via, il che li rende una serie davvero interessante. Come squadra abbiamo un sacco di cose da provare e il modo migliore per farlo è gareggiare. Escludendo la gara della MX1 di oggi, abbiamo disputato una serie praticamente perfetta ma sono molto dispiaciuto per la mia prima partenza. In un certo senso è stato anche positivo partire indietro, perché mi ha dato l’opportunità di fare alcuni sorpassi guidando in rimonta, il che mi potrebbe tornare utile anche durante la serie MXGP. Questo è un campionato diverso, in MXGP tutti sono più motivati e faranno tutto il possibile per essere vicini ai primi. Di sicuro gli altri sono migliorati molto dall’anno scorso e vedremo cosa accadrà quando in Argentina cadrà il cancello della partenza. Penso che quest’anno, come sempre, la chiave sarà la costanza.”
In Mantova, Antonio Cairoli wins both titles in MX1 Class and Supercampione Class
The last race of the Internazionali d’Italia MX EICMA Series 2019 took place today inside the Tazio Nuvolari circuit facilities. The sandy track that is one of the Cairoli’sfavourites was tough and rough with edge bumps throughout the track that made for a tricky and technical ride for the 200 plus riders involved in the three categories.
In the morning the nine time world champion scored an amazing pole position with his KTM 450 SX-F and went to the gate first, but the advantage didn’t help the Sicilian who had a difficult start when the gate dropped. Far outside of the top twenty at the first corner, the KTM Red Bull Factory Racing Team rider managed to come back trough the pack whilst scoring fastest lap after fastest lap, crossing the finish line in third place, winning the MX1 title for the third year in a row. In the Supercampione moto, TC222 scored the hole-shot and pulled away from the field from the first to the last of the fifteen laps, crossing the finish line first for the third time this series and winning his eleventh Internazionali d’Italia title. In a few days everything will be ready to fly to the other side of the globe, for the first round of the MXGP 2019, that will be hosted on the Patagonian track of Villa La Angostura.
Antonio Cairoli: “The Internazionali d’Italia is always a good series because there are a lot of champions on the line, which makes it really interesting. As a team we have a lot of things to test and the best way to do it is while we race. We had a perfect series, barring the MX1 race today. I’m very upset about my start but in one way it was also good because It gave me the opportunity to make some passes and to ride through the pack, which will be helpful during the MXGP series. This is a different championship, in MXGP everybody has extra motivation and will do everything they can to be close to the front runners. For sure the others have improved a lot since last year and we will se when the gate drop in Argentina what will happen. I think that this year like always the key will be the consistency.”
