The verdict at the end of the time practice on the track of Lommel, has reflected those that were the indications received from free practice with Jeffrey Herlings and Pauls Jonass who have set the best lap time in their respective classes, MXGP and MX2.
Pauls Jonass 2018 MXGP of Belgium Lommel
In the MX2 class, the Latvian team official KTM Pauls Jonass set the best time, stopping the clock at 1: 57.467. Second, the English Adam Sterry (Kawasaki), followed by compatriot Conrad Mewse (KTM), third. South African rider Calvin Vlaanderen (HRC) and Spanish rider Jorge Prado (KTM) are ranked fourth and fifth respectively. The first five riders are enclosed in just half a second.
From the sixth to the tenth position, we find in order of ranking Ben Watson (Yamaha), Jago Geerts (Yamaha), Brent Van Doninck (Husqvarna) and the official Husqvarna duo composed by Thomas Kier Olsen and Thomas Covington.
The Italian rider Michele Cervellin (Yamaha) finishes his timed qualifying session in eleventh place. As for the other Italians, Simone Furlotti (Yamaha) is fifteenth, Morgan Lesiardo (KTM) is eighteenth, Nicola Bertuzzi (KTM) is twenty-ninth.
Jeffrey Herlings 2018 MXGP of Belgium Lommel
In the MXGP class, free practice as well as time practice are dominated by the Dutchman of the official KTM team Jeffrey Herlings. ‘The Bullet’ is the only rider on the track to score a time below 1: 52 and stops the clock at 1: 51: 547, at the end of the second lap. His team mate and main contender for the 2018 MXGP title Antonio Cairoli, stops the clock at 1: 52.733, accusing a gap of 0: 01.186 seconds.
Behind the KTM’s riders, the French rider of the Yamaha team Romain Febvre is third, which precedes the Slovenian Tim Gajser (HRC) and the English Max Anstie (Husqvarna). All three drivers are more than two and a half seconds behind the leader.
From the sixth to the tenth position, we find Jeremy Van Horebeek (Yamaha), Gautier Paulin (Husqvarna), Kevin Strijbos (KTM), Shaun Simpson (Yamaha) and Glenn Coldenhoff (KTM).
Difficult time practice for Alessandro Lupino (Kawasaki) who settles in nineteenth position. Further back, the other Italian Ivo Monticelli, which on the saddle of his Yamaha marks the thirty-second time.
Appointment scheduled for 4:15 pm (CET), with the qualifying race of the MX2 class. Then, at 5:00 pm (CET), MXGP riders will hit the track.
